The Lexham Estate operates as a 4,400-acre property featuring a 2,500-acre arable farm managed directly by the estate. Farming historically supported the property’s operations, but declining agricultural income and rising maintenance costs prompted operational changes over the past 15 years.
The estate has adopted a risk-averse farming strategy, including acquiring additional land and consolidating certain operations. Current cropping on the Estate farms is based on sugar beet, oilseed rape, winter wheat and barley production.
Notable changes include ceasing in-house potato production in 2001 and contracting out the pig unit. Since October 2015, NE Salmon Ltd has managed the home farm operations.

Partnership Initiative
The estate has established a Limited Liability Partnership with regional farming businesses, resulting in a brand new ‘state of the art’ high volume hi-tech grain drying, processing and storage facility.
Collaboration with other farm businesses is seen by the estate as a positive move forward.
